Dumpster Size Guide — Choosing the Right Roll-Off Container
Not sure which dumpster size you need? This guide walks you through all three sizes we offer — 10, 20, and 30 yard — so you can pick the right container for your project without overpaying or running out of space.
Size Comparison at a Glance
All three containers are 8 feet wide. The main differences are length and height.
Quick Recommendation
Small cleanup or single room? Go with the 10 yard. Roofing, remodel, or estate cleanout? The 20 yard is our most popular choice. Big construction or whole-home gut? Pick the 30 yard. Still not sure? Call us at 410-820-6414 and we will help you pick.
10 Yard Roll-Off Dumpster
Dimensions: 12' × 8' × 3.5' | Weight limit: 1 ton (2,000 lbs)
About 3 pickup-truck loads of material. Think of it as a box roughly the size of a large parking space, standing about waist-high.
Ideal For:
- ✓ Single-bathroom renovation
- ✓ Garage cleanout
- ✓ Small deck removal
- ✓ Yard debris from a weekend cleanup
- ✓ Attic or basement decluttering
Not Ideal For:
Full-home renovations, roofing jobs, or heavy construction debris.
20 Yard Roll-Off Dumpster
Dimensions: 22' × 8' × 4.5' | Weight limit: 3 tons (6,000 lbs)
About 6 pickup-truck loads. This is our most popular size — long enough to hold full sheets of plywood and tall enough for bulky furniture.
Ideal For:
- ✓ Roofing tear-offs (most residential roofs)
- ✓ Kitchen or bathroom remodel
- ✓ Estate cleanout
- ✓ Multi-room renovation
- ✓ Medium landscaping project
Not Ideal For:
Very small cleanouts (a 10 yard would save you money) or massive construction demolitions.
30 Yard Roll-Off Dumpster
Dimensions: 22' × 8' × 6' | Weight limit: 3 tons (6,000 lbs)
About 9 pickup-truck loads. Same footprint as the 20 yard but with taller sides, giving you significantly more volume for bulky, lightweight debris.
Ideal For:
- ✓ Whole-home renovation or gut job
- ✓ New construction waste
- ✓ Large commercial cleanout
- ✓ Storm damage cleanup
- ✓ Multi-layer roofing tear-off
Not Ideal For:
Small weekend projects where a 10 or 20 yard would be more cost-effective.
